10 activities to do on a rainy day in the Thau Archipelago

Presentation

Oh no, it's raining! Don't panic, whether you are with adults or with your family, we suggest 10 activities to do on the rare days when it rains in the Thau Archipelago.

1 - Let's go to the movies?

Comfortably installed in your seat, with a packet of popcorn in your hand, enjoy the latest films in one of the two cinemas in Sète, the Comoedia and the Palace, at the Taurus in Mèze or the CinéMistral in Frontignan. Block-busters, art house films, screenings for young audiences, you're bound to find something to suit you! In autumn and spring, screenings are also organised every Sunday afternoon at the Piano-Tiroir cultural centre in Balaruc-les-Bains.

2 - Take advantage of the opportunity to learn something new!

In Sète, culture is king and can also be enjoyed in the warmth of our many museums. Most of them can be discovered during an artistic journey thanks to the museum pass on sale in our reception offices at the unbeatable price of 15€: the Georges Brassens space, Paul Valéry museum, the Sea museum, the International Museum of Modest Arts (Miam), the chapel of the Upper Quarter...

From February to November, the museums of the Thau Archipelago also open their doors to you. In Bouzigues, the ethnographic museum of the Thau Lagoon will reveal all the secrets of shellfish farming. And in Loupian, the Villa-Loupian Gallo-Roman Museum will give you the chance to admire the polychrome mosaics preserved in their original location.

3 - Take a dip

In the Thau Archipelago, the pleasures of water can also be enjoyed in bad weather. The Fonquerne swimming pool, in Sète, offers all the necessary equipment to satisfy sportsmen and women as well as those who wish to splash around and have fun. The paddling pool, wave pool, slide and Olympic pool are ideal for families looking for fun and affordable activities.

4 - Reading

There is not one, but a whole network of media libraries in the Thau Archipelago! Within their recent and well-equipped premises, they offer reading spaces, multimedia services, as well as areas dedicated to the youngest. During the school holidays, numerous activities are organised for all ages and all publics.

5 - It's a sight to behold

There's nothing like a show to keep you entertained while waiting for the clouds to move away! Push open the doors of the Théâtre de Poche (Sète), the Centre Culturel Léo Malet (Mireval), the Piano-Tiroir (Balaruc-les-Bains) or the sumptuous Théâtre Molière (Sète) to benefit from a sharp and eclectic programme that gives pride of place to art in all its forms!

6 - Treat yourself to a tasting of local wine and Muscat wine

In the Thau Archipelago, many wine and muscatel producers open the doors of their estates for tastings. In Frontignan, Vic-la-Gardiole, Mireval, Marseillan and Mèze, you can savour sun-drenched red wines, white wines to be enjoyed with shellfish, or a whole range of sweet and dry muscats that you're sure to want to take back in your suitcases!

7 - Pamper yourself

Treat yourself to a relaxing interlude in one of our sumptuous establishments dedicated to well-being, for a moment completely out of time. O'balia, the first Mediterranean thermal spa, offers a wide range of treatments and massages in its "magic hands" area. You will also find your happiness at the Maison Tarbouriech spa, where top-of-the-range services and the virtues of the Thau oyster are honoured.

8 - Learn the art of mixology

Popular throughout the world thanks to James Bond's cocktails, Noilly Prat's vermouth reveals its history during a guided tour of its production site. On the spot, let yourself be tempted by a "cocktail" workshop which will give you all the keys to delight your guests and liven up your festive evenings. For adults only, of course!

9 - A journey through time

Classified as a Historic Monument and founded in 1139, Valmagne Abbey is one of the most beautiful Cistercian abbeys in France, but also one of the oldest vineyards in the Languedoc. Its immense nave and its tuns, its cloister and its fountain make it a site not to be missed in our region and will leave you speechless. You will have the opportunity to taste the wines produced on the spot, unless you prefer to let yourself be tempted by a healthy and gourmet meal in the abbey's farmhouse inn.

10 - Treat yourself to a comforting snack

When the temperatures drop and the sky is grey, there's nothing like a gourmet break to cheer you up! Our favourite addresses? Liloo Bistrot and Café Lulu in Sète, as well as Café des fleurs in Mèze. These cosy and friendly places offer a wide choice of hot drinks and sweets, to be enjoyed comfortably while watching the drops fall.
