Family walk in the salt marshes

Presentation

By Valerie - May 2019

For a change from the beach, I suggested to my children an unusual visit offered by the Tourist Office: the old salt pans. I registered us on their website, paid online directly via the ticket office and received my tickets on my smartphone.

On the day of the walk, we are provided with a cap, water bottle and camera. The guide waits for us on the car park of the Salle de l'Aire, with the other registered participants, to take us to the starting point. There, information and explanations are given on an information board.

We start the walk and Laurent already stops, putting his binocular on the ground: there is a group of pink flamingos with their young, which are grey, so we observe them and take pictures, it is great!

We start walking again, the next stop is a tasty one: we delicately pick a branch of what the guide tells us is salicornia and as its name indicates, it is salty! My daughter makes a face! It seems that you can make pesto and spread out of it...

We then stop at the edge of the pond of Ingril on a beach and then at the old buildings of the salt marshes. Laurent tells us about their work, the living conditions of these salt workers, the gabelle...

We arrive in sight of the cars and a final stop is dedicated to birds. With a binder full of photos, the guide explains the difference between a seagull and a gull, shows us photos of a tardorne, a tern, an egret and in the distance behind him, my son even spots a swan.

The walk lasts about 2 hours. It's really up to everyone's standards. A beautiful walk in nature. On the advice of the travel consultant I spoke to on the phone, next year we'll do this walk again, but at night.
