LES ARESQUIERS ET LES ETANGS

FRONTIGNAN

Presentation

Follow the trail along this listed site between Frontignan and Maguelone beach. The Etang de Vic lagoon extends towards Frontignan into a second, the Ingril. Its banks are bordered by marshes and reed beds where native and migratory birds gather. The canal linking the river Rhône to Sète crosses the lagoons east to west. Aresquiers beach and the 'Bois de La Fontaine' forest are located between them. The forest is a veritable sea of pines planted at the beginning of the last century, and is perfect for picnics. In the Middle Ages, when the lagoons were linked together, flat-bottomed trading boats would sail into them to shelter from pirates or bad weather.
